Spring Colors

Looking at pushing past the series of flowers on black backgrounds that I've developed over the last few years. Here is a first attempt of a more monochromatic series.

Daffodil on Yellow #3

But I can't pass up a good opportunity.

Several people have asked - and while I sometimes have to use Photoshop on the backgrounds, these backgrounds are straight out of the camera with some dust removal and color correction in Lightroom.

Goodnight Moon

A group of nine handheld images stacked using RegiStax 6.

Moon - 8 March 2017

This second image is a stack of 32 images in RegiStax. As a general note. I've found that Photoshop is very good at pre-aligning the images before bringing them into RegiStax.

A Late Snow

Spring is trying to arrive early, but today the snow is fighting back.

Crocus in Snow

The question is which crop is best.

Birds of Winter

We are trying to patiently wait for migration of song birds, but here are a few birds of winter.

Duck, Duck, Goose

Okay - no pictures of geese, but we always see Canada Geese every time we go out. But today I was able to get a few decent shots of some Hooded Merganser at Deeds Point.

Penumbral Success!

Composite of tonight's penumbral eclipse taken from 7:38 EST to 9:20 EST. Fortunately the clouds broke just in time to catch the peak of the eclipse at 7:38.

RegiStak6 Rocks

At least it does a great job with this rock. I need your help, do you like the black & white or the color version? Let me know in the commments.

Thanks Tony & Chelsea

A special thank you to Tony and Chelsea for reviewing my work on T&C LIVE last night. I appreciate the feedback, and have been wanting to add an About section for quite a while. Chelsea - don't worry. I have more guinea pigs in hats photographs for you to enjoy.

Sliver of the Moon

Yesterday at sunrise, I had the brief chance to photograph the moon at the lowest illumination I've ever shot - this Waning Crescent is a 28 day old moon that is only 3% illuminated. Taken on the way to work - I did not have my tripod with me. While not the best quality, I love the look of this tiny sliver.

Starting Test Shots for the Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8

Prepping to write a review of the Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8. I've been using this lens since before the holidays, and so far so good. Tonight was the first serious test of it's macro ability. Here are two sample images taken with the Tamron paired with the Raynox DCR-250.

Dayton's Deeds Point

Downtown isn't where you usually think of going to find wildlife, but downtown Dayton plays host to the Great Miami River and numerous tributaries. During winter, northern waterfowl seek shelter and food in the shallow, unfrozen waters. This last week, we've visited Deeds Point Metropark and Island Park Reservoir finding numerous species including Goldeneye, Bufflehead, Hooded Merganser, Great Blue Heron, and even a Peregrine Falcon.

Cold Snap

Winter seems to have finally arrived - just a bit late. This last week temperatures have been in the teens and single digits. I love getting out in the cold air and shooting, here are a few from the last couple of days.

Clear Skies Before the Storm

We're expecting 2-3 inches of snow tomorrow, but tonight the sky is crystal clear for a few more minutes. Both images were taken on a Nikon D750 using the Tamron SP 150-600MM F/5-6.3 Di VC USD with a Tamron 2X teleconvertor for an equivalent magnification of 1200mm. The first image below is a a composite of 9 images, stacked in Registak 6.0

Welcoming 2017 in with a Bloom

Louise's Spotlight Amaryllis decided to bloom yesterday, so we're celebrating the New Year's with a bloom.

Spotlight Amaryllis

Testing a high-key style verses low-key. With the light, soft pastels of the amaryllis, I think I prefer the high-key images. Which do you prefer?
